Michael Shannon

Michael Shannon says he never thought that he would be involved in a movie such as Man of Steel.

The actor is set to return to the big screen next month as he takes on the role of General Zod in the Zack Snyder directed blockbuster.

And while it is a role that was unexpected for the actor he admits that he has a blast working on the film.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "It's a nice feather in my cap, for sure. It's not anything I ever imagined I would be a part of and I'm still trying to process it really," he said.

"When I started acting, I never thought I would be in a Superman movie so it's pretty neat. I did some big blockbusters before, but never this prominent a role."

"I can't fathom how people would say no to Man Of Steel. I thought they were pulling my leg... Then I got on set, and realised they were serious. I had no qualms about doing it. I loved it. It was a blast."

And we are going to be seeing plenty of Shannon this summer as he is also set to star in The Iceman, which is based on the true story of contract killer Richard Kuklinski.

He has also completed work on They Came Together and Young Ones while he is currently filming The Harvest.

Man of Steel is released 14th June.
