Michael Cera has joked that being slapped by Rihanna in new comedy This Is The End did not bring them closer together.

The actor is back on the big screen this summer as he plays himself in the end of the world movie starring James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill.

Cera gets a huge wallop at the beginning of the film from the pop star and says it was a lot of fun.

Speaking to Press Association the actor said: "It was great. It was a nice way to get to know Rihanna, although I don't feel like I really got to know her at all.

"She's wonderful. A wonderful amalgamation of a lady."

This Is The End sees all of the actors play themselves in the film with Danny McBride, Emma Watson and Jay Baruchel all also on the cast list.

This Is The End marks the return to the big screen for Cera for the first time since Magic Magic.

The actor has reprised the role of George-Michael Bluth for a new series of Arrested Development and is set to take on the same role in the a movie.
