Michael Caine is one of ht greatest and most iconic British actors of all time, but it looks like he is ready to retire from acting.
During a career that has seen spanned over sixty years, Caine has starred in movies such as Get Carter, The Italian Job, Zulu, and more recently the Batman franchise - not to mention he has two Oscars under his belt - that he no longer has any ambitions left to achieve.
And the actor says that unless he receives a script that he cannot turn down, he will be calling it a day when he wraps up his last picture in December.
Speaking to BBC2’s Newsnight, the actor said:
“I have no ambitions now… all I do is, I do films that I really want to do.
“If I don’t get a script – which I don’t have – that entices me out, I’ll be done in December when I do the last picture, the last script I’ve got.
“I always went into every movie with an aim. It was either to get an Oscar or make money, that’s the two reasons I do movies. I’ve got two Oscars and I’ve got some money so I’m alright.”
Alas, do not fear Caine fans, as we are going to be seeing quite a bit of him over the next few months as he has a series of movies in the pipeline.
He will be reuniting in November with filmmaker Christopher Nolan for the highly anticipated sci-fi epic Interstellar. Interstellar will be the sixth film for Caine and Nolan after three Batman movies, Inception and The Prestige in recent years.
Interstellar has been one of the most anticipated films of 2014 and it looks set to be one of the most successful. There is also some suggestion that the movie could be in the Oscar race at the beginning of next year.
He has also finished work on Kingsman: The Secret Service, which is based on the comic book s series Secret Service by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons.
Matthew Vaughn is back in the director’s chair for the film, while Colin Firth, Mark Strong and Samuel L. Jackson join Caine on an exciting cast list.
Caine has also finished work on Danny Collins and The Early Years, and is currently filming The Last Witch Hunter. The movie sees him star alongside Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, and Elijah Wood, while Breck Eisner is in the director’s chair.
Caine has been nominated for an Oscar six times during his illustrious career; both his gongs came for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Hannah and Her Sister and The Cider House Rules.
During his career, Caine has created some unforgettable characters and starred in some British classics as well as movies that have enjoyed colossal box office success.
