Michael Caine says he has never been in competition with other actors, only himself.
Caine remains one of the most in-demand actors and is one of the most successful actors that this country has ever produced.
And while acting can be a cut-throat world with many competing for roles, Caine admits that he has nothing but love for other actors.
Speaking to ShortList Magazine, the actor said: "I couldn't be a star - a cockney guy from Elephant & Castle, son of a Billingsgate fishmonger. I have no sense of competition with any other actors - I love other actors and their performances. Love them. My competition is with myself."
Caine has starred in iconic films such as Get Carter, The Italian Job and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and has won two Best Supporting Actors for his work on The Cider House Rules and Hannah and Her Sisters.
But the actor insists that his good career fortune has been down to luck and has had nothing to do with him. He continued: "All I've ever done, right to this day, from my first part - I was a butler who came in and said, 'Dinner is served' - is to try to be the best possible actor I could be.
"The fact that I became a star, as I said earlier, I just thank God for that. Nothing to do with me whatsoever."
It has been another successful year for the actor with The Last Witch Hunter and Kingsman: The Secret Service both performing well; the latter has been one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year.
Caine will be back on the big screen in the New Year as he is set to lead an all-star cast in drama Youth, which has been directed and written by Paolo Sorrentino.
He has also completed work on Going In Style and Now You See Me 2, which will see him reprise the role of Arthur Tressler. The movie sees him reunite with Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, and Woody Harrelson, while Daniel Radcliffe and Lizzy Caplan are two of the big new additions.
Youth is released 29th January 2016. Now You See Me 2 is released 10th June 2016.
