Michael Bay is set to direct the 'Ghost Recon' film.

The 'Transformers' director is working with Warner Bros. to helm the movie adaptation of the hit video game series, created by Ubisoft.

Development is still in the early stages, but the studio believe Bay is the man to bring the military video games - which are inspired by the work author Tom Clancy - to life on the big screen.

In the game series, the action focuses on the fictional Recon team, who are a unit of the US Army's special forces that acts as the President's strike team.

Jean Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, told Variety: "These guys don't belong to any specific organisation. They're in the field where the US troops are not supposed to be. It's a small team with very strong personalities and very specific skill sets. They're using weapons nobody knows about but it's very grounded. It's not sci-fi."

Bay - who is currently working on 'Transformers 4' - has not yet signed up to take on directing duties, but he will definitely be involved in the movie in some capacity.

'Ghost Recon' is one of several video games which are being brought to life on the big screen with stealth games 'Assassin's Creed' and 'Splinter Cell' both being made into films.
