Meryl Streep has revealed that she was shocked when Emma Thompson was not nomination for a Best Actress Oscar.
Streep finds herself in the Best Actress mix once again for her performance in August: Osage Country.
However, there was no place for Thompson, and Streep reveals she wrote to the Saving Mr Banks actress.
Speaking on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actress said: "I was really shocked.
"And I wrote her a long, heartfelt email saying how bad I felt. And she wrote me back and said, 'Good.'"
Streep will battle it out for the Best Actress Oscar alongside Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams.
This is an eighteenth nomination for Streep - she won in 2011 for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
Continuing to talk about the Oscars with DeGeneres, she said: "I'm so old news. There were so many performances this year that were great... there were a lot of surprises and injustices."
August: Osage County hits the big screen in the UK this week, and sees Streep star alongside Julia Roberts.
August: Osage County is released 24th January.
