Meryl Streep finally got her hands on her third Oscar after a thirty year wait for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
Streep had been the smoking hot favourite for the Best Actress gong before Christmas but had seen those odds shortened after Viola Davis won the Screen Actors Guild Award.
But it was to be the veteran actress' night as she collected her award from Colin Firth, last year's Best actor winner.
Speaking to the Kodak theatre the actress said: Oh God! Oh come on! Alright.
"Thank you so much, thank you thank you. I could hear half of America going ‘Oh come on! Her again!’ But, whatever.
"First I want to thank Don - my husband, normally you say it at the end and they get drowned out with the music.
"I really want to thank all my colleagues, all my friends, I look out here and see my life before my eyes.
"The thing that counts the most to me is friendship in this inexplicably wonderful career, thank you so much. Thank you."
Streep last won in 1982 for her performance in Sophie Choice but has bagged seventeen Oscar nominations throughout her career.
