This week has seen some great movie news! From Marvel’s Mark Ruffalo being cast for the director of Parasite’s next project, to Amy Adams’ new role as a feral suburban mum. Read about all this, and more, below!
Spirit Halloween film reveals plot
Many films that come out these days are based on something, but the upcoming Spirit Halloween feature is something a little different – it is based on the costume store chain of the same name.
Last month (April, 2022) saw the announcement that the movie had finished filming, and now details have come out not only about the narrative, but about the cast and their characters.
Spirit Halloween stars Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future franchise) as Alec Windsor, a rich land developer who disappeared without any explanation years ago; however, his cursed spirit now haunts the town he died in for one hour every Halloween night.
Leigh Cook (She’s All That) plays Sue, a mother whose son spends the night in an abandoned mall as a dare. When the animatronics inside become possessed, though, the group must keep the spirits from possessing them, too.
Parasite director casts Mark Ruffalo in upcoming feature
Bong Joon Ho, director of 2019 successful feature, Parasite, has cast Marvel’s Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette (Knives Out, Nightmare Alley) in his new film.
Parasite was an outstanding hit when it debuted in 2019, leading to widespread success. Now, Joon Ho is in the midst of developing another movie which will surely be highly praised.
Ruffalo and Collette will join previously announced cast member Robert Pattinson (The Batman).
While the roles the actors will play are being kept hidden for now, we can definitely get excited for Joon Ho’s next venture, since his first was so incredible.
Bad Boys 4 is still in development
As many, if not all of us are aware, the 2022 Oscars was somewhat of a disaster, as Will Smith slapped fellow actor Chris Rock in the face after a comment about Smith’s wife. This has led to consequences for Smith, but not everything has been taken from him.
Bad Boys 4, according to Sony chairman Tom Rothman, has “been in development and still is”, suggesting that the film was never delayed or paused, but simply never begun development until recently.
The chairman stated, in an interview with Deadline, that “There weren’t any brakes to pump because the car wasn’t moving”, meaning that the Oscars incident didn’t play a factor into the development of Bad Boys 4, rather than the movie had just not gotten off the ground yet.
Benedict Cumberbatch cast in feature from Jason Bourne director
Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Marvel’s Doctor Strange, has been cast in director Paul Greengrass’ upcoming period drama, titled The Hood.
There aren’t many details surrounding the movie at the moment as it seems to be in very early stages of development. What is known, however, is that Cumberbatch will be playing a farmer who becomes the leader of the rebellion.
Early talks of the film have said that the feature will be similar to the likes of Braveheart and Gladiator, which, with Greengrass and Cumberbatch on board, could be a very interesting and thrilling movie indeed.
Amy Adams to star in new Hulu film about a mother turning feral
Amy Adams (The Woman in the Window, Enchanted) will be starring in upcoming Hulu film, Nightbitch, based on the novel of the same name that debuted in 2021.
The book, written by Rachel Yoder, focuses on a suburban mother who believes that she is slowly turning into a feral dog. As she juggles this ever-growing fear (and real-life issue), she must also take care of her kids and a tiring daily routine.
While Adams usually plays supporting characters, such as Lois Lane in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), she is more than capable of holding attention all on her own, which will undoubtably be proven once Nightbitch premieres on Hulu.
