Matthew McConaughey has been linked to the role of Randall Flagg in a big screen adaptation of The Stand.
The Stand is the latest of Stephen King’s novels to be adapted for the big screen, and Josh Boone is on board to adapted the book into a screenplay.
A string of actors and directors have been linked to The Stand in recent years, but now Deadline have reported that McConaughey could be on set to take on the role of Flagg.
We have seen McConaughey take his career in a very different direction in recent years, and the role of Flagg would see that continues, as he is a demonic figure who causes mayhem after a plague has killed most of the population.
However, no official announcement has been made by Warner Bros about the cast for the upcoming film.
We haven’t seen McConaughey on the big screen since he would the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club earlier this year. We have seen him on the small screen with series True Detective: for which he has been nominated for an Emmy.
He is set to return to film this autumn with the highly anticipated Intersteller, a film that will see him team up with filmmaker Christopher Nolan for the first time.
Anne Hathaway, Casey Affleck, Jessica Chastain, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, and Michael Caine will all join McConaughey as part of an impressive cast list.
McConaughey is currently filming drama Sea of Trees with Naomi Watts and director Gus Van Sant.
