Matthew McConaughey says the Best Actor - Drama category 'great company' to be in.

McConaughey triumphed at the Golden Globes last night as he scooped the Best Actor - Drama gong for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

The actor took on the role of Ron Woodroof in the biopic film, that followed the HIV sufferer as he went to great lengths to acquire the right medication that he and other sufferers needed.

Collecting his award he said: "Alright, alright, alright. This was unexpected, but graciously accepted.

"Respect to the nominees, Mr. Redford, Mr. Hanks, Chiwetel. Idris. It's great company to be in.

"This film, Ron's story, was an underdog. For 20 years it was an underdog; turned down 86 times; nobody wanted to put up money for it. We got the right people together five years ago, stuck to it, put some skin in the game, and here it is."

McConaughey could well find himself in the Oscar race later this week when the nominations are revealed, However, the American actor was overlooked last week when the Bafta nominations were revealed.

McConaughey was not the only awards triumph for Dallas Buyers Club last night, as Jared Leto walked away with the Best Supporting Actor gong.

Dallas Buyers Club is released 7th February.
