Matt Smith has heaped praise on Ryan Gosling saying that he was inspired by the actor when they came face to face.
Smith has begun work on Gosling's directorial debut How To Catch A Monster, which is one of the biggest movie roles of his career to date.
Smith reveals that he has been a huge fan of Gosling as an actor as well as saying that his has a clear vision for his debut film.
Speaking to Total Film the actor said: "He's cool. He's bright. He's got a really clear, really brilliant vision for his film. It has a wonderful (David) Lynch-ian quality. He's operating in a very interesting filmic language."
"And I'm a huge fan of his work as an actor. I think he makes brilliant choices. I think it's important to work with people you're inspired by, and I absolutely was when I met him."
Gosling is not only in the director's chair for How To Catch A Monster but he has also penned the screenplay. Smith is joined on the cast list by Saoirse Ronan and Christina Hendricks.
Smith has concentrated on TV work in recent years as he has enjoyed great success playing The Doctor in BBC hit Doctor Who - a series which is set to celebrate it's 50th anniversary this year.
As for How to Catch A Monster filming has just got under way and it is set for release next year.
