Matt Reeves is reportedly in talks to direct 'The Batman'.
The 50-year-old screenwriter, whose previous credits include 'Cloverfield' and 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', has held talks with Warner Bros. about directing the much-anticipated standalone superhero movie after Ben Affleck stepped down from the role in January.
Matt has already agreed to take on the job, but the finer details of the deal are still to be confirmed, according to Variety.
The acclaimed filmmaker has always featured prominently on the list of potential replacements for Ben - who will still have a big say in the direction of the movie - but other candidates were still being considered until recently.
Matt is currently in post-production for 'War for the Planet of the Apes', which is due out later this year - but subsequently has a gap in his schedule to focus on the new Batman movie.
Meanwhile, Ben announced last month that he was standing down from the directing job to focus his attention on playing the titular role.
The 44-year-old hunk said he took the decision to concentrate on giving the part of Batman the "passion" it deserves.
In a statement, he explained: "There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.
"Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world."
