Matt Damon has described the introduction of Alicia Vikander and Tommy Lee Jones to the Jason Bourne franchise as one of the 'biggest trailblazing things' that this franchise has done.
Damon is set to reprise the title role in Jason Bourne, the fifth film in the series but the fourth time that we have seen Damon play this much-loved character.
Vikander and Jones are two of the big new additions to the series and represent the old and the new; Vikander is a specialist in cyber warfare and Jones represents the 'old guard.'
Speaking to EW about these two new characters, Damon said: "You have to do something great and new, and Alicia is our great and new. She plays a new character we're introducing, and she's a specialist in cyber. Instead of just the three arenas of warfare - air, land and sea - there's now this fourth element: cyber. The implications of that are huge, and she's representing that in the movie.
"We also have Tommy Lee Jones in the movie, and he's kind of representing the analog CIA in the way the old guard thinks. Those two go head to head quite a bit. Introducing those two new characters, I think, is probably one of the biggest trailblazing things we've done in this movie."
I don't know about you, but I am excited at the prospect of seeing Vikander and Jones going 'head to head' in what could be the most exciting Bourne film yet.
We got our first teaser trailer for the film at this weekend's Super Bowl - it was also revealed that the new film would be called Jason Bourne.
We last saw Damon take on this role back in The Bourne Supremacy in 2007. This new film sees him reunite with filmmaker Paul Greengrass for the fourth time.
Vincent Cassel and Riz Ahmed are two other new additions while Julia Stiles is set to reprise her role as Nicky Parsons.
Jason Bourne will be the first feature film for Damon since the huge success of The Martian last autumn; a movie for which Damon has been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar.
Jason Bourne is released 28th July.
