Man of Steel has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office as it has taken over $113 million in its opening weekend.
The movie sees Superman return to the big screen for the first time in seven years as the franchise is rebooted by director Zack Snyder.
Man of Steel, which sees Henry Cavill take over the central role, was one of the most anticipated films of the year and the opening box office figures reflect that excitement.
This Is The End was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week as it opened at number two.
The comedy sees Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and Jay Baruchel all come together to play exaggerated versions of themselves in the Rogen and Evan Goldberg directed film.
The was no move for Now You See Me at three while Fast & Furious 6 was down two at number four.
The Purge was this week's biggest faller as it dropped four places from one to five. The Internship fell out of the top five as it was down two at six.
Epic, Star Trek Into Darkness and After Earth were all down two place at seven, eight and nine while Iron Man 3 fell just a single place to round off the top ten.
