Lupita Nyong'o praised the spirit of Patsey in her Oscar acceptance speech last night.
Nyong'o triumphed in the Best Supporting Actress category at the Oscars, for her stunning performance in 12 Years A Slave.
And Nyong'o praised Patsey, and thanked Solomon Northup for telling their story.
In her acceptance speech, the actress said: "It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else's.
"And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance. And for Solomon, thank you for telling her story and your own."
12 Years A Slave marked a big screen debut from Nyong'o and she has been in the awards mix from the entire awards season.
The Best Supporting Actress category was a tough one, but she saw off competition from Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Sally Hawkins and June Squibb.
12 Years A Slave also won Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley.
There were no shocks in the acting categories as Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett won Best Actor and Best Actress. Jared Leto also triumphed as he won Best Supporting Actor.
