Lupita Nyong'o says she has been in a bubble since picking up a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for 12 Years A Slave.
Nyong'o made her big screen debut with the role of Patsey in the Steve McQueen directed film.
And she admits that she did not understand the size and power for the film when she was making it.
Speaking to New York Magazine, the actress said: "I've been in a bubble. I haven't been out much. I haven't gotten used to being recognised.
"I was blissfully ignorant of the magnitude of the project I was in or what it was going to mean for the world."
Nyong'o is also in the running for the Best Supporting Actress award at the Baftas this weekend: Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey and Sally Hawkins are all also in the running.
Nyong'o will be returning to the big screen at the end of this month, as she is set to appear in action film Non-Stop.
12 Years A Slave has been met with critical acclaim and will battle it out for the Best Picture Oscar at the beginning of March.
