Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio says that it was quite intimidating working on an adaptation of such a well loved novel.

DiCaprio is back this May as he takes on the role of Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

The movie sees DiCaprio reunite with Luhrmann for the first time since Romeo & Juliet but the actor says that it was a tricky project.

Speaking to Access Hollywood the actor said: "[It's one of the] most beloved novels of all time.

"It is a great piece of American literature and everyone has their own personal connection with these characters and these people and they have their own interpretation of Gatsby.

"It's intimidating going into a process where you're going to make a film adaptation of something that is this intricate complex and beloved worldwide because you're almost setting yourself up for disaster."

We have already seen DiCaprio on the big screen this year with a great turn in Django Unchained and he will be back with The Wolf of Wall Street.

The movie sees him work with Martin Scorsese once again in a movie that looks at fraud and corruption.

The Great Gatsby is released 16th May.
