Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed that he slept in animal carcasses and ate raw bison liver whilst making his new film The Revenant.
The actor says that he was pushed to the limits whilst filming the new movie, which saw him team up with Oscar winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu for the first time.
Not only did DiCaprio have to sleep in animal carcasses and eat raw bison live, but she says that he faced the possibility of catching hypothermia on a constant basis.
Speaking to Yahoo about filming The Revenant, DiCaprio said: I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I've ever had to do - whether it's going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly.
"I certainly don't eat raw bison liver on a regular basis. When you see the movie, you'll see my reaction to it, because Alejandro kept it in. It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction."
Filming on The Revenant wrapped earlier this year and is already one of the most talked about and anticipated films of earlier 2016. It will be the first film from Iñárritu since the success of Birdman and the first time that we have seen DiCaprio on the big screen since The Wolf of Wall Street.
The movie will see DiCaprio take on the central role of frontiersman Hugh Glass, who is out for revenge when he is left for dead after a bear mauling. He is already tipped to be in the race for the Best Actor Oscar.
Tom Hardy reunites with DiCaprio for their second movie together - they starred in Inception - while Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter, and Paul Anderson are all also on the cast list.
The movie is expected to be in the Best Picture race while Iñárritu could well pick up a second consecutive Best Director Oscar nomination. Could he win two years in a row?
Should DiCaprio be nominated, it would be his fourth Best Actor nod - he was also nominated for The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, and The Aviator - but he is yet to win.
The Revenant is released 15th January 2016.
