Leonardo DiCaprio remembered indigenous communities around the world as he collected his Best Actor Golden Globe award last night.

DiCaprio was the favourite to scoop the Best Actor/Drama gong for his performance in The Revenant, which saw the actor team up with director Alejandro González Iñárritu for the first time.
The actor saw off competition from Bryan Cranston, Will Smith, Eddie Redmayne, and Michael Fassbender to win the third Golden Globe of his acting career.
Speaking as he picked up the award, DiCaprio said: "I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film, and all the indigenous communities around the world.
"It is time that we recognize your history, and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interest and people that are out there to exploit them. It is time that we heard your voice, and protect this planet for future generations."
The Best Actor award was the first if three awards for The Revenant, as it went on to scoop Best Director and Best Picture/Drama.
DiCaprio's win at the Golden Globes only solidifies his status as the favourite to win the Best Actor Oscar - even though the nominations are not announced until later this week.
The Revenant is the first time that we have seen DiCaprio on the big screen since he picked up a Golden Globe gong and a Best Actor nomination for his fantastic performance in The Wolf of Wall Street.
The success of The Revenant comes a year after Iñárritu enjoyed critical, commercial, and awards success with Birdman. While Iñárritu missed out on the Best Director Golden Globe twelve months ago, he triumphed last night and is also expected to be in the Oscar mix.
The Revenant is released in the UK on 15th January.
