Kyra Sedgwick is far more comfortable directing than acting.
The 58-year-old star made her debut behind the camera on the 2022 picture 'Space Oddity' and explained that it is a space where she has a lot of "confidence".
Speaking to Variety. Kyra said: "I have fallen in love with directing.
"This feels so much better than acting. I'm much less vulnerable. And I feel like I know what I'm doing more. I have so much confidence. As an actor, I am filled with self-doubt."
Kyra explained that she wants to co-direct a horror movie with her husband Kevin Bacon but the pair have struggled to convince the Directors Guild of America (DGA) to give them both the responsibility.
She said: "It's very hard to get dual directing credit.
"If you promise the DGA that you will only direct together for the rest of your lives, then they're more inclined to do it. But if not, they won't."
This means that Kyra and Kevin will have to decide who gets credited as the director for the film – which is also due to feature their actress daughter Sosie Bacon.
She said: "We'll figure it out. But I'm very strategic. I wonder if more people will see this if it's a Kevin Bacon film than a Kyra Sedgwick film?"
The 'Something to Talk About' star also expressed frustration about the lack of opportunities afforded to female directors by movie studios which means it is essential that their pictures are successful.
Kyra said: "We're going backwards. People feel more comfortable with a male director on the studio side than they do with a female director. And I don't know why.
"I also think women are not allowed to fail. Men fail up constantly."
