Kurt Russell has revealed that he has not see Guardians of the Galaxy - despite the fact that he is in the running for a role in the highly anticipated sequel.
Russell has been linked to the role of Peter Quill's father and admits that he has already talked to director James Gunn about the project.
But Russell says that he is giving himself some time to familiarise himself with the material before deciding whether or not to jump on board the Marvel franchise.
Making an appearance on the HappySadConfused podcast, the actor said: "I literally got a phone call two days ago about this.I've never seen Guardians of the Galaxy so I don't know anything about it. Many times I've heard 'That's a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.' I don't know it!
So, I didn't realize that [James Gunn] had written and directed it, but we talked to each other on the phone. And I just had to be honest and say, 'Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can't bring anything for you [right now]. I've got nothing to offer here. So, I'm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do... it's a little weird."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will see Gunn return to the director's chair - for his first feature since the success of the first movie - and he has also penned the screenplay.
Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel and Dave Bautista are all set to return and Russell would be a fantastic addition to an already great cast list.
It was back in 2014 when Guardians of the Galaxy hit the big screen for the first time and it went on to be a huge critical and commercial smash. Filming on the sequel is set to get underway next year for the 2017 release date.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will be the first of three Marvel films to be released in 2017 and will be followed by Spider-Man and Thor: Ragnarok.
As for Russell, he will be back in January as he is set to lead the cast of The Hateful Eight, the latest Western from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. We are also going to see the actor star in Deepwater Horizon and Bone Tomahawk.
The Hateful Eight will be the first film for Russell since we saw him join the cast list of Fast & Furious 7 last summer.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released 28th April 2017.
