Kingsman 2 has received a 16th June 2017 release date.
Kingsman: The Secret Service has been one of the surprise hits of 2015 so far, and, earlier this year, it was announced that a sequel is in the pipeline.
Matthew Vaughn is expected to return to the director's chair for the film and he is currently working on the screenplay with Jane Goldman.
Shooting is expected to get underway next April after a shooting conflict with Taron Egerton was iron out. The actor, who is set to reprise the role of Eggsy, was also set to film in Robin Hood: Origins and the two projects clashed.
20th Century Fox and Kingsman 2 will now get the services of Egerton first and the Robin Hood: Origins project has now been pushed back.
While there is no official word about other members of the cast, there were rumours that Colin Firth may make a return in the sequel - quite how that is going to work remains to be seen.
Kingsman: The Secret Service was the first film for Vaughn since the success of X-Men: First Class back in 2011. The movie was released at the end of January and was both a critical and commercial hit.
By the end of its theatrical run, the movie had grossed in excess of 413 million at the global box office; making it one of the biggest films of the year.
The success was a major surprise but has led to the sequel being given the green light.
However, a June 2017 release date is a completely different ball game as the movie will face some tough competition from the summer blockbusters. If it will do as well at the box office when released at this time of year remains to be seen.
