Keira Knightley doesn’t see herself returning to the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise.

It was the role of Elizabeth Swan in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl that shot Knightley to global superstardom, when she teamed up with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.

She would go on to reprise the role on two more occasions, as she starred in Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End, before bowing out of the franchise alongside Bloom.

Since she left, On Stranger Tides was a huge box office success and a fifth movie is currently casting. However, when asked by Digital Spy if she would return to the role of Elizabeth, she said: "No, I don't think so.

"It was an amazing point in my life, but it was a good five-year chunk. It was incredible, but I can't really imagine going back to it."

The first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies grossed over $2 million at the global box office and turned Knightley into an A-list star. Since then she has gone on to mix and match her roles, moving from period drama, to indie projects to more blockbuster roles.

She returns to the big screen this week as she teams up with Chloe Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell in Say Well - originally called Laggies. She is also set to star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the Imitation Game next week.

The Imitation Game is already one of the most talked about movies of the autumn, as it whipped up a storm at the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival - on the festival circuit it won over both audiences and critics.

Directed by Morten Tyldum, the movie tells the story of Alan Turing and his role in cracking the Enigma Code during the Second World War. The movie is already being tipped as a major favourite for an Oscar nomination.

As for Knightley, she has also completed work on Everest, which sees her work with director Baltasar Kormakur for the first time. The movie follows a disastrous climbing expedition on Mount Everest, and sees Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Wright, Josh Brolin, and Jason Clarke on the cast list.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is currently casting, and Ansel Elgort and George MacKay have been linked with roles in the film. Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow, while Javier Bardem could also be involved in the project.
