Kathy Etchingham hit out at All Is By My Side, the new Jimi Hendrix biopic.
Andre Benjamin will take on the role of Hendrix in the film, while Hayley Atwell will play Kathy.
Etchingham was a former girlfriend of the legendary musician and reveals that she was upset with the way the singer had been portrayed in the movie and hit out at director John Ridley.
Speaking to Page Six she said: "Later on, after he went to New York and fell in with the wrong crowd, he might have started to go off the rails, but in the early days he was a fresh, clearheaded and ambitious musician.
"We had a lot of fun that first year in London, and I think it's a shame that Ridley has made such a pig's ear of the story."
Etchingham decided to write to the Irish Minister for Arts complaining they were subsidizing a film that defamed an Irish national, as well as forcing Ridley "to take out the defamatory bits and reshoot scenes" with the help of a lawyer.
The final edit still fell short of Etchingham's expectations, however, and she described it as "ridiculous... sexist" and "dull as dishwater."
