Kate Winslet has revealed that she did turn down the chance to star in Labor Day.
Winslet will be back on the big screen next month in the Jason Reitman film; a project that sees her work with the director for the first time.
But it was the project that almost didn't happen for the Oscar winner due to a scheduling issue.
Speaking to Total Film, the actress said: "I had just finished working in Paris with Roman Polanski [on 'Carnage'] and it was March of 2010 and Jason wanted to start filming in June and I knew that was quite quick for me. I wouldn't normally do things so close together.
"I loved the script, but said 'Sadly I can't do it' and he said, 'Why not?' Which I thought was incredibly bold, and I was enamoured by that response."
However, Reitman was so determined to get Winslet on board the film, that he was prepared to schedule the filming of the project around her.
"I'd made a commitment to myself in my life that I wasn't going to work until the following year. And he said, 'When would you do it?' And I said, 'A year from now,' and he said 'Ok.'
"And that has never happened to me before - someone's actually waited a whole year. And I felt very, very fortunate that he was prepared to do that."
Labor Day is a big screen adaptation of the Joyce Maynard novel, and has been adapted by Reitman himself.
Labor Day kicks off a busy period for Winslet as we are also going to be seeing her in Divergent and A Little Chaos.
Labor Day is released 21st March.
