Kate Hudson won't take on a movie unless it's worth leaving her family.
The 38-year-old actress has decided to take a huge step back from her acting career over the past few months because nothing has cropped up that has convinced her to spend an extended period of time away from her sons Ryder, 13, and six-year-old Bingham.
She explained: "If I'm going to make a movie, it has to be one I really want to do if it means being away from my family for any length of time. When I have to be on a set at 5:30am, I never want to be thinking: 'What am I doing here when I could be making my kids breakfast?'"
And it's not just the emotional side of things the blonde beauty finds tough as it's so exhausting trying to balance her Hollywood career with being a mother - though she's lucky to have her brother, who helps to babysit her children when she's busy on a film set.
She told OK! magazine: "It's tiring sometimes, but I have a lot of help. When you're a mother, you try to look after everyone and hold things together even if you feel worn down and in need of support. My brother is a great baby sitter."
And when she's not at work, Kate tries to encourage her children to get out in fresh air and enjoy nature because that's how her mother Goldie Hawn and her step-father Kurt Russell raised her.
She explained: "We were always a very outdoorsy family. We moved from Los Angeles to Colorado and it was such a beautiful environment.
"They created a very happy, harmonious home life for us and I've tried to do the same for my children. I grew up riding dirt bikes, hiking and enjoying being in nature. That stays with you all your life."
