Karl Urban has revealed that it was director Justin Lin who convinced him to reprise the role of Bones in Star Trek Beyond.
Urban is one of the familiar faces on the cast list of Star Trek Beyond as he plays the character of Bones for the third time.
However, the actor reveals that he was 'on the fence' about returning to the franchise until he talked to new director Lin.
In an interview with IGN, Urban talks about the discussion that he had with the director: "It was a breath of fresh air, and I really appreciated Justin's intimate knowledge and understanding of the character dynamics. In fact, I was on the fence about doing the movie until I spoke with Justin...
"I had a conflicting schedule, and I had a decision to make about which film to do, and I was no longer under contract to do a third picture. So I had a decision to make, and it was talking with Justin that enabled me to commit to it."
Star Trek Beyond is the first film in the franchise for Lin as he takes over the director's chair from J.J. Abrams. But Lin is no stranger to the blockbuster genre with a number of Fast & Furious films under his belt.
Urban is not the only familiar face on the cast list as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho are also back.
Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella are the big new additions to the cast list as they are set to take on the roles of Krall and Jaylah.
2016 is set to be a busy year for Urban, who we are also going to see in the remake of Pete's Dragon later this summer. Pete's Dragon is the latest film from Disney and will see the actor star alongside Robert Redford and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Urban is also set to be one of the new faces in Thor: Ragnarok; it has been announced that he will take on the role of Skurge in the third solo Thor film. Filming will get underway later this year and will see Urban work alongside Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and Cate Blanchett.
Star Trek Beyond is released 22nd July.
