Karen Fukuhara reveals that she has always wanted to play a samurai warrior.
The actress is set to take on the role of Katana in this summer's Suicide Squad and is thrilled that she has finally landed a character that she has always wanted to play.
Speaking to Playboy, the actress said: "As a first-generation Japanese American, I've always wanted to play a samurai warrior like my Suicide Squad character, Katana.
"Samurai are almost always male, so growing up in America I had a hard time figuring out role models. Katana and I may not have the same personality, but coming from the same cultural upbringing, we share core values.
"In Japanese culture, there's this idea of putting others before yourself, but I've also never wanted to let myself down. Someone recently told me how refreshing it is to see an Asian woman as a superhero. That stuck with me. Stand up for yourself and what you love."
Fukuhara is set to make her big-screen debut with Suicide Squad as she stars alongside Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Joel Kinnaman in the latest comic book film.
Suicide Squad looks set to be the movie that will send her star rocketing - who knows where we will see this character end up going forward.
The movie will see David Ayer in the director's chair for what will be his first feature film since the success of Fury.
This is the first time that Suicide Squad has been brought to the big screen as the DC movie world continues to expand.
Suicide Squad is the second DC movie of the year and will follow on from the success of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In fact, we are going to see Ben Affleck reprise the role of Batman has he is set to make a cameo appearance.
Suicide Squad is released 5th August.
