Warner Bros.’ superhero team-up Justice League will be coming to the big screen later this year, bringing Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg together for the first time, granting long-time comic book fans something they’ve been waiting to see for decades.
Somebody who won’t be joining the cast in the movie however is Laurence Fishburne, who plays Perry White, despite those behind the movie trying to get him on board.
Explaining that he had scheduling conflicts meaning he couldn’t be a part of the film, Fishburne said: “They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern. We’ve been waiting 35 years for these to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.”
Despite Green Lantern not being confirmed for the Justice League movie, it is a character that’s been heavily rumoured. With Fishburne’s insider knowledge on exactly what may be going on in the DC Extended Universe, could he have let a major surprise out of the bag prematurely with his comments?
Though he admits Marvel has been ‘kicking ass’, he also said he didn’t understand the complaints behind Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, adding that he found Jesse Eisenberg’s casting as Lex Luthor a “genius move”, whilst he saw the Martha Kent and Martha Wayne storyline “sentimental” and “heartwarming”. He also says he loves “what Zack Snyder does”, so there’s clearly no bad blood between the Daily Planet boss actor and the DCEU’s various cast and crew members.
The DCEU continues with the release of Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017 and will bring Justice League to fans on November 17, 2017.
