Joss Whedon says that many elements of Avengers: Age of Ultron is bigger than the first film, but he reveals that they tried to 'avoid bloat' as much as they possibly could.
Whedon is back in the director's chair for the second Avengers movie, which is already one of the most anticipated films of next year and comes three years after the billion dollar success of Avengers Assemble.
The director says that there is more scope this time around and will see the movie move away from the predominantly single setting of New York and go global as it feature more countries that the first movie.
Speaking to Collider, the director said: "The cast is bigger. The scope is bigger. We have more to work with, not that we're trying to spend more. In fact, we're trying to avoid bloat wherever possible. But with this, we're on a broader canvas, we're in more countries.
"We have a bigger world to work with and a bigger world for them just to be in. Once they exist as a team, we have to deal with what everybody thinks about that, and what that means to the world. So it's not as simple as it was."
Age of Ultron will see Whedon return to the director's chair for the firs time since his adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing last year, and this looks set to be the biggest movie of his directing career to date.
He will be reuniting with Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo as they return as Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye & Hulk, however, there are some great new faces on board.
Whedon has brought James Spader, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as they will introduce the characters of Ultron, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. We are use to hearing Paul Bettany's voice as Jarvis, but he will also be taking on the role of The Vision for the first time.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 24th April 2015.
