Joss Whedon has spoke for the first time since it was revealed that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are to appear in Avengers 2.
Whedon is currently working on the script for the highly anticipated sequel - a movie he will also direct - and will introduce these two character in the new film.
It hinted at earlier this month that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were set to be involved in the Avengers 2 plot, but this is the first time that Whedon has spoken about it.
Speaking to IGN the director said: "You know, they had a rough beginning. They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn't necessarily agree with The Avengers.
"So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier."
Avengers 2 will bring to a close phase 2 of Marvel movies - which includes Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Avengers Assemble grossed in excess of $1.5 billion when it was released last summer and phase two has been kicked off in fine style as Iron Man 3 has just broke the $1 billion barrier.
While it is still up in the air who we will be seeing on the cast list in Avengers 2 filming is expected to get under way next year.
