Joss Whedon says he would not bring back the original Star Wars characters if he was helming the new movie.
J.J. Abrams is the man behind Star War VIII and it was revealed last week that Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill were all in talks to reprise their iconic roles.
But Whedon does not agree with this move and wants to see the franchise move forward.
Speaking to Digital Spy the director said: "You know, I wouldn't go back, I'd go forward.
"I would want to create characters that would resonate the way that they did."
We are going to be seeing Whedon back in the director's chair later this year as his adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing hits the big screen.
Whedon is currently working on the script for Avengers 2 and last wee he revealed that the second movie would focus on the relationships between the central characters.
Much Ado About Nothing is released 14th June.
