Josh Duhamel admits that he was initially interested in the character of Alex in Safe Haven.
Safe Haven is the latest Nicholas Sparks novel to be adapted for the big screen and see Duhamel team up with Julianne Hough.
But when the script came back a second time the actor couldn't turn it down.
Speaking to Collider the actor said: "I don’t remember if they actually offered it to me the year before, but I had read it the year before.
"It was something that was interesting, but the character wasn’t dynamic enough. There wasn’t enough going on.
"And then, it came back a year later and it was much better. There was more to do.
"But then, I found out Lasse Hallström was directing it, and Marty Bowen is a great producer and a friend of mine, and Relativity does these movies really well. It was the whole package.
This is the second movie of the year for Duhamel after being part of the ensemble cast of Movie 43.
He has also completed work on Scenic Route and You're Not You.
Safe Haven is released 1st March.
