Josh Brolin says that getting the chance to work with director Paul Thomas Anderson was 'better than great'.
Brolin is set to team up with Anderson for the first time with the big screen adaptation of Inherent Vice, which is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Pynchon.
And Brolin admits that he likes the perspective that the director has and thoroughly enjoyed getting the chance to work with him.
Speaking to Collider, the actor said: "Great! Better than great just because he's a guy that creates and ambiance of possibility.
"You choose a story like this. When you see There Will Be Blood or you see raining frogs in Magnolia, you're like, 'Okay, he's willing to go in a totally different place.'
"He has a perspective that I think is interesting, personally. It has nothing to do with how successful he is or how this or how that. Is this a fun theater piece to do? Who else is doing it? Joaquin. Okay. Well, that's a given so why would you not do it? Then you get involved."
Inherent Vice sees Brolin part of one of the great ensemble casts of the new year, as Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Jena Malone, Eric Roberts, and Maya Rudolph are just some of the names on board.
As for Brolin, he has also completed work on Everest, which sees him work with Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Sam Worthington, and director Baltasar Kormákur.
The actor has also finished work on Sicario and is currently filming Hail, Caesar! with George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
Inherent Vice is released 30th January 2015.
