Johnny Depp had an extreme makeover for 'Black Mass'.
Johnny Depp "unrecognisable" after make-up has been applied for 'Black Mass' where he plays Whitey Bulger.
The 50-year-old actor is set to play convicted murderer and organised crime figure Whitey Bulger - who is currently serving two life sentences in an Arizona prison - in a new biopic, while 'Sherlock' actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as his law-abiding brother, Massachusetts State Senator Bill Bulger.
Cumberbatch revealed the Hollywood icon has a lot of work to do to resemble his character as is virtually "unrecognisable" after make-up has been applied.
Talking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, he explained: "I'm playing his brother, except Johnny has got a lot further to go than me to look like the character he's playing.
He added: "I saw a test shot of him in his full make-up and it's phenomenal. He will look unrecognisable."
They will be joined on the big screen by Joel Edgerton who will play disgraced FBI agent John Connolly, who aided Whitey Bulger and was sentenced to 40 years in prison despite maintaining his innocence.
And Jesse Plemons, known for playing Todd in 'Breaking Bad', will take on the role of Bulger's long-time partner in crime Kevin Weeks, while Sienna Miller will play his lover Catherine Greig.
Dakota Johnson has also been cast in the forthcoming film as Bulger's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his only child.
