Johnny Depp has hinted that he is 'not too far away' from quitting his acting career.

The Oscar nominated star is back on the big screen next week in The Lone Ranger; a movie that sees him reunite with Gore Verbinski and team up with Armie Hammer.

But the actor has described his profession as an 'insane option for a human being'.

In an interview on BBC Breakfast this morning the actor said: "When you add up the amount of dialogue you say per year and you realise you've said written words more than you've had a chance to say your own words, that becomes an insane option for a human being.

"Are there quieter things I wouldn't mind doing? Yes, I wouldn't mind that. I wouldn't say I am dropping out any second but I would say it's not too far away."

Despite the hint that he may walk away, the actor has plenty of projects in the pipeline to keep him busy.

He is currently filming Transcendence; which is the directorial debut for Wally Pfister.

Mortdecai and Into The Woods are also on the horizon, as is and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and a possible Alice In Wonderland 2 movie.

The Lone Ranger is released 9th August.
