John Carpenter has paid tribute to fellow director Wes Craven, following new he had passed away over the weekend.
Craven passed away at the age of seventy six after battling brain cancer. The movie world has being paying tribute to the director, who was best known for his work in the horror genre.
Carpenter took to Facebook to pay tribute to his fellow filmmaker, he wrote: "My friend Wes has left us too soon. He was truly an Old School director. I had a great time directing him. I'm REALLY gonna miss him."
Wes Craven kicked off his feature film directorial career back in 1972 with The Last House on the Left and went on to direct movies such as The Hills Have Eyes, and the hugely influential A Nightmare On Elm Street in the eighties.
He enjoyed even more success in the nineties as he was behind the popular horror franchise Scream, which first hit the big screen back in 1996.
Courteney Cox, who worked with Craven on Scream, took to Twitter to lead the tributes, saying: "Today the world lost a great man, my friend and mentor, Wes Craven. My heart goes out to his family."
Sarah Michelle Geller wrote: "I had the great privilege of working with #WesCraven one of the kindest most gentle souls, who made great scary films. #RIPWesCraven"
While fellow director Paul Feig also took to Twitter to pay his tribute: "RIP Wes Craven. You were one of a kind. Thanks for all the years of scares and fun."
Scream 4 was the last time that we saw Craven in the director's chair as he returned to the franchise back in 2011.
He had been working as a producer on a string of projects, including TV series Scream and movies The Girl in the Photographs and Home - the movies are currently in post-production.
Craven is survived by wife Iya Labunka and his two children, Jonathan and Jessica Craven.
