John C. Reilly has been confirmed for 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.

The 48-year-old actor has signed up to play Rhomann Dey in the Marvel Studios' sci-fi, superhero blockbuster, which follows a team of otherworldly superheroes with special powers who are tasked with protecting the universe, according to Deadline.com.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' - which will be directed by James Gunn - will be set entirely in space and star Chris Pratt as the group's leader, Star-Lord aka Peter Quill; Zoe Saldana as superhuman vixen Gamora; Dave Bautista as burly henchman Drax the Destroyer; and Michael Rooker as Yondu.

Other parts which have yet to be filled include animal crime-fighters Rocket Raccoon and Wal Russ.

It has recently been confirmed that the Guardians will join the cast of 'The Avengers 2' alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain American and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, which is set for release in 2015.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' will open in UK cinemas on 1 August 2014.
