John Boyega has spoken out against the backlash of a black actor being shown as a stormtrooper.
Boyega is set to take on a major role in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens and his character was shown in stormtrooper outfit when the first trailer for the movie was released.
Rather than everyone celebrating the return of the Star Wars franchise, some hit out at the fact that this footage went against the traditional 'white clones'.
However, Boyega has hit out against the criticism while speaking to V Magazine, the actor said: "I'm in the movie, what are you going to do about it? You either enjoy it or you don't. I'm not saying get used to the future, but what is already happening.
"People of colour and women are increasingly being shown on-screen. For things to be whitewashed just doesn't make sense."
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to be the biggest film role of Boyega's acting career to date and looks set to be the movie that will send his star rocketing.
While Boyega is not stranger to cinema, he is best known for his TV roles in the likes of Becoming Human, 24: Live Another Day, and Major Lazer.
The actor is set to take on the role of new character Finn in the film and will star alongside Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, and Lupita Nyong'o. However, there are some familiar faces to watch out for as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Peter Mayhew will be back as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia, and Chewbacca.
There's not long to go now until The Force Awakens hits the big screen and it looks set to be one of the biggest films of the year. Can it gross over $1 billion? Will it challenge Jurassic World to become the highest grossing movie of 2015? I guess we are going to have to wait and see.
As for Boyega, he is currently filming The Circle with Emma Watson, Karen Gillan, and Tom Hanks. The movie is a big screen adaptation of Dave Eggers' novel and sees James Ponsoldt in the director's chair.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released 17th December 2015.
