Joe Russo has dropped some hints as to what we can expect from Avengers: Infinity War.
Joe and Anthony Russo are taking over the Avengers directors chair from Joss Whedon later this year as filming is set to get underway on the already highly anticipated Avengers two-parter.
While the Russo brothers are no strangers to the Marvel world, with two films in the Captain America franchise under their belt, this will be their first Avengers film.
And while much about the project is being kept under wraps, Joe Russo has hinted that we will see new characters take on bigger roles and some of our franchise favourites taking more of a backseat.
Speaking at a Q&A panel from Wizard World New Orleans Comic Convention and quoted by ComicBook.com, Russo said:
"Everything is finite, right? Nothing can last forever," Joe Russo began to explain. "It's cyclical. Some New Avengers in phase 4 are going to become prominent and then maybe some Avengers might not be around anymore. So, we'll see how all this plays out but you have to treat every character with respect.
"I think it's interesting that if you've seen four or five movies with the lead character having an arc, I want to see some storytelling from some of the secondary characters. We're focusing on that right now with Infinity War while we're breaking into those movies, is which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven't had their own 'A' story arc to this point. I think you'll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers."
Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man have been the driving forces of the Marvel franchise so far, with a string of successful solo films. However, the likes of Hulk and Black Widow have been weaved into those movies without ever getting a solo film of their own.
Over the next couple of years, we are going to be introduced to Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man and it is going to be interesting to see where they are all going to fit into the puzzle.
However, before we see Anthony and Joe Russo direct Avengers, they will be back with Captain America: Civil War. This will be their second Captain America movie after they steered The Winter Soldier to both critical and commercial success.
Civil War is going to be another big ensemble piece as the Avengers are set to go head to head - we are also going to be introduced to some exciting new characters.
Avengers: Infinity War- Part 1 and Part 2 will be released in 2018 and 2019.
