Joe Cornish is being linked to the director's chair for Star Trek 3.
J.J. Abrams will not be returning to helm the third film in the series due to his commitments on Star Wars VII, so the hunt is on for a new director.
According to Deadline, Cornish has caught the eye of Paramount and believed to be their top choice to take over from Abrams.
Cornish has been behind films such as Attack the Block and also co-wrote The Adventures of Tintin.
He is currently working with fellow British director Edgar Wright on the script for Ant Man - the Marvel movie that will kick off Phase Three of films in the summer of 2015.
While Abrams is not on board as director he is set to produce the film. Filming is expected to get underway next summer.
Attack The Block marked the feature film directorial debut for Cornish back in 2011 - we haven't seen him direct another project since due to some writing commitments.
Star Trek 3 would be the biggest movie of Cornish's career to date.
Star Trek Into Darkness hit the big screen earlier this year and enjoyed box office success as it grossed over $467 million worldwide.
