J.J. Abrams says that the character John Harrison is a completely different villain to Nero from the first Star Trek movie.
Abrams is back in the director's chair as he helms the long awaited sequel to the 2009 film.
Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the big additions to the cast list as he takes on the role of Harrison - a character that does not exist in the original series.
Abrams has talked about the character and compared him to the bad guy in the previous movie.
Speaking to Total Film the director said: "[Nero] was just a raging, vengeful lunatic. All he wanted to do was destroy Vulcan, Earth and the Federation...He had backstory but was kind of irrational.
"The beauty of Benedict’s [John Harrison] is that he’s completely rational.
"He’s someone that you can have conversations with. You couldn’t sit down and talk to Nero - he’d bite your head off!"
Star Trek Into Darkness is the first movie for Abrams since the fantastic Super 8.
And he will be sticking with action/sci-fi has he will helm Star Wars: Episode VII.
Star Trek Into Darkness is released 17th May.
