Jessica Chastain has described Interstellar as a movie about fathers and the 'bonds of love.'

Chastain is set to return to the big screen next month as she stars in Interstellar. which sees her team up with director Christopher Nolan for the first time.

The movie will see Chastain and Matthew McConaughey play father and daughter, and the actress says it is those family themes that are at the heart of this movie.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, the actress said: "It's about a father and his daughter. It's about the powerful bonds of love.

"Chris and Matthew are both fathers and I think, yes of course there's an incredible space action adventure, visually stunning film, but the heart of it is about the bonds of love.

"And I think Chris being a father was a very personal story for him."

Chastain takes on the role of Murph who, along with her brother, are left behind on a dying earth as their father sets off to find another planet for the human race to inhabit.

Chastain and McConaughey are joined by an all-star cast, as Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, and Anne Hathaway are all on board.

Interstellar is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and is being tipped as a possible Oscar contender when the nominations are announced at the beginning of next year.

As for Chastain, she has already completed work on A Most Violent Year, which sees her star alongside Oscar Isaac and work with director J.C. Chandor.

She has also filmed Crimson Peak with Guillermo del Toro, and has been linked to The Zookeeper's Wife and The Martian.
