Jessica Chastain is believed to be in early talks to star in The Martian.
The Martian will see Ridley Scott in the director's chair, while Matt Damon is already on board the project.
Variety have reported that Chastain could be in line to land the lead female role, as talks with the Oscar nominated actress are underway.
Based on the e-book by Andy Weir, the movie follows an astronaut who is stranded on Mars and struggling to find a way home.
Drew Goddard has penned the screenplay, while Scott is back in the director's chair.
Deadline further reported that Kristen Wiig is also in talks for another role in the movie.
Chastain will be back on the big screen later this year with Interstellar, a movie that sees her work with director Christopher Nolan for the first time.
The actress has also completed work on A Most Violent Year and Crimson Peak.
Crimson Peak is one of the most anticipated films of 2015, as it marks the return of visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
The Martian is currently scheduled for a 27th November 2015 release date.
