Renner returns to the role of Clint Barton for the first time since the success of Avengers Assemble and got to look past the 'superhero' side of the character this time around.

The Oscar nominated actor revealed that it was the human side of this character is what originally attracted him to the role and he is glad he got to explore that at last.

He said: "It was really cool to be able to explore that human side. That was my main attraction to doing Hawkeye in the first place because he is a character is human, is flawed and has limitations.

"To explore the humanity in him and the human side of him, instead of the superhero side of him, was really exciting."

Renner made a small cameo in Thor back in 2011 before the character of Hawkeye was properly introduced in Avengers Assemble a year later. However, Renner was not able to explore the character as much as he wanted in the first film due to the way the story worked out.

However, Renner is back in Age of Ultron for what looks set to be a much bigger and more interesting role for him this time around.

Age of Ultron kicks off a busy summer for Renner as we are also going to be seeing him star in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which sees him reprise the role of William Brandt.

He took on the role of Brandt for the first time in Ghost Protocol in 2011 and reunites with Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg for this new film.

Renner will also be returning to the role of Hawkeye later this year as he is set to step into the Captain America franchise for the first time with Civil War.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is released 23rd April.
