Jeremy Irons has hinted to a 'different' Alfred in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Irons is set to take over the role of Alfred for the first time in Dawn of Justice as he stars alongside Ben Affleck's interpretation of Bruce Wayne.
And while Irons has given very little away about his character - we have also seen virtually nothing of him in the trailers we have been treated to so far - he says he is a man driven to protect Bruce.
Speaking to Empire, Irons said: "I knew we would be finding a different angle on Alfred. So I thought of him as my own.
"Alfred has lived longer than Bruce, and so perhaps has a clearer perspective on life. As well as having been in loco parentis to Bruce, his only remit in life is to protect him. And, as those of us who have raised children, let alone Batmen, will know, that is quite a wide remit."
Irons follows in the footsteps of the likes of Michael Caine and Michael Gough by taking on this role and it will be the first time that we have seen both Alfred and Batman since the success of The Dark Knight Rises back in 2012.
Irons is one of out best actors and I cannot wait to see his interpretation of a character that we all know so well. His relationship with an older Bruce Wayne is going to be a very interesting one.
Dawn of Justice sees Irons team up with filmmaker Zack Snyder for the first time, while Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Jesse Eisenberg are some of the other big new additions to the cast list.
We are also going to be seeing Irons star in British movie High-Rise this March and he has also finished work on Race.
The actor has just wrapped on Assassin's Creed, which is based on the popular computer games and also stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard with Justin Kurzel in the director's chair.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March.
