Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Fidel Castro's former lover in 'Marita'.
Lawrence is being lined up for the role of Marita Lorenz, who had an affair with the Cuban revolutionary in 1959, in the upcoming movie.
Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that Sony have picked up the film and several studios, including Warner Bros., Paramount and Fox 2000, were said to be keen on the project.
'American Hustle' writer Eric Warren Singer has penned the script for 'Marita', and approached Lawrence, who starred in the 2013 black comedy crime film, about the role.
Lorenz has had an eventful life from having an affair with Castro aged 19 to fleeing Cuba to join anti-communists in the US after having an abortion.
In the 1970s she spied on diplomats for the FBI and in the 1960s she was involved in an assassination attempt by the CIA on Castro, but it was unsuccessful and he is now 89 years old.
Lorenz, 76, has also claimed to have been involved in the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy.
The German-born American is still alive and has penned two autobiographies, 'Marita: One Woman's Extraordinary Tale of Love and Espionage from Castro to Kennedy' and 'Lieber Fidel - Mein Leben, meine Liebe, mein Verra'.
