Jennifer Aniston says she 'begged and pleaded' to be given a chance to land the lead role in upcoming film Cake.
Cake sees Aniston team up with director Daniel Barnz for the first time, and is thankful that he had faith in her to tackle this very different role
Speaking to EW.com, the actress said: "Daniel Barnz the director has said that, and it's what I'm so grateful and thankful for about him, that he did sort of take the chance.
"I begged and pleaded and promised I would go to the moon and back with him. It was an unexpected way to go and he believed in me."
Cake is one of the most serious roles that Aniston has tackled during her acting career, as she plays a woman who embarks on a relationship with a widower while having hallucinations of his dead wife.
And Barnz's faith in Aniston has been rewarded as she picked up a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Actress at the end of last week.
Aniston was already being tipped by some to land her first Best Actress Oscar nomination, and that position has been strengthened after the Golden Globe and SAG nods.
However, if Aniston wants to triumph at either the SAGs or the Golden Globes, she is going to have to see off tough competition from Julianne Moore, Felicity Jones, Rosamund Pike, and Reese Witherspoon. Moore is currently the favourite to dominate the awards season for her central performance in Still Alice.
Cake is released 20th February 2015.
