Jeff Wadlow reveals that he really pushed Fox into making X-Force their next big project.
The X-Men spin off is the latest comic book adaptation and will see Wadlow pen the screen play.
He has also been linked to the director's chair on the project; however that has not been officially announced.
Speaking to Collider the director said: "They were talking about all these different ideas for franchises they could build and characters, and I said, 'X-Force. Gotta do an X-Force movie'. And they originally said, 'Maybe that's a second step'. And I said, 'No, it's about teams'.
"That's what, to me, the X universe is about. It's not about doing movies with individual characters and then bringing them together in a team; that's what Marvel already did with The Avengers.
"I think the next step is to have these teams and see how they bounce off of each other, that's where you can have crossover potential."
Wadlow is set to make a splash this summer as he will direct Kick Ass 2 - which is the biggest film of his directing career so far.
The movie sees Mark Millar's comics brought to the big screen once again, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson reprising the title role.
Wadlow will now work on the screenplay for X-Force - which is expected to hit the big screen in 2016.
