Jean-Marc Vallée says he was looking for a humanity in the story when he read the script for Dallas Buyers Club.
Vallee is back in the director's chair for Dallas Buyers Club - a film that is based on the real-life story of HIV sufferer Ron Woodroof.
Speaking to Collider the director said: "If you look at C.R.A.Z.Y. and Café de Flore, and even in Young Victoria, there is always humanity. I think I’m looking for a beautiful humanity in this story, in the subject and the stories.
"So when I read the script, it was there just like the other projects that I selected before."
Dallas Buyers Club is already whipping up a storm with the critics, as the performances from Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto have been heavily praised in recent weeks.
This is the first film for Vallee since Cafe de Flore, but it will not be hitting UK cinema screens until next year.
Vallee has already started working on his next project as filming is underway on Wild.
The movie is based on memoir of Cheryl Strayed, who embarked on a solo 1,100 hike as she tried to recover from events in her life.
Reese Witherspoon will take on the role of Cheryl in the film, while Charles Baker and Laura Dern are also on board.
Dallas Buyers Club is released 7th February 2014.
